Default Odd coincidence?

I've noticed that the closer to christmas we get, the more people I see running around in Obsidian armor.

I was in a party for some mission in Elona (forget which one it was) and there was a Ritualist spamming "You guys see my sexy obsidian armor?" over and over again. During fights, during down-time, during the entire damn thing.

Later in that mission, someone asked how he got it. He said "I bought gold from ebay as a present to myself."

I won't say what his name was, as that's totally his perogative. However, it makes me wonder how many other people have that same mentality.

"Well, i'll just buy some gold so I can get FoW armor as a gift to myself for being me this year."

I don't see more people in FoW armor lately, but yes, selling or buying anything in game for real world money can get your account permanently banned.

My opinion is that those people just want to show off and are being stupid by wasting money on something you actually can't touch. I find it hilarious. I mean, what's the fun of it afterwards? I'd never buy gold/items.

With that mentality buying games is stupid then cause you can't actually touch the game can you? Only the actual CD/DVD and those that got it electronically even more impossible to touch it. People can do whatever they like whether its buy things like that online. Some people just don't have the time to go farming. I bought one set of FoW and I will not buy another one the time I spent to farm all the ectos and the gold could of been spent doing something else. Its the time value of money concept and the fact some people just have excess cash lying around that they can use.

Another quick note, buying gold is listed as a service, same if you go to a service provider where you pay to get a service, some people would think like you "why do you pay so much for this etc" you can't touch services as well. Intangible goods...

FoW armor is 20 months old... more and more people are bound to have it. Lots of people use ebay (they wouldn't sell gold if no demand existed), but lots of people don't. I'll just never understand why people bother with the horrid looking armor when Nightfall or Factions offer better looking alternatives at much cheaper prices.

My guess is that a lot of those players (have not seen that many) are players that got bored playing GW (or the farming nerfs) and came back for the Winter event.
It's been quite busy in the winter towns lately.

It was not that hard to get the cash for FoW if you knew how to farm
I don't farm, don't like it, but made about 80K with Vengefull Rt build farming Kephket in two evenings/nights.
I'm sure some people did a lot better than I did (I sold everything to merchant, 4 Kephket staves at about 2K each to players, kept a few myself (selling took too long, my heroes use them now).
And at that time, the most profitable farming was already nerfed, for what I've heard.

Omfg, i'm seeing a lot of posts here where people are assuming I meant that I, personally, bought gold for FoW.

No. I stated that it looks like people are doing it. I'm not.

Thanks, though.

If i ever got FoW armor, it WOULDN'T be for the looks. It would be to prove that I have money.

I have enough money for FoW armor, but yeah it looks hideous.

I think you're reading an awful lot between the lines where there just isn't anything there. Nobody suggested you purchased gold - no need to get so defensive.

I've put it in an incorrect way of saying. Of course I don't mean you shouldn't buy the game cus u can't touch it I just find it hilarious how people pay like 20 euros for 100k ingame gold. Also, selling gold is no service. It's selling something what is actually something belonging to Anet.

Pointless post. Screen shot people who say such things and report them. There's enough threads about lame ebayers on this site. Just my opinion.

Its their money and they can spend it on what they like, wether it's against the Eula or not... They probably think some of the stuff you spend money on in life is ''hilarious''. It's advertised as a service because their not actually selling gold. They're selling the time it took to collect the gold... and believe it or not anet don't own the time. The sellers just happen to give over the gold as a thank you to the buyer(as far as i know its not against the Eula to give other players gold). We all know thats not really how it works but thats how they get around it on Ebay.

Could you give me a link where they advertise with "let the xxx amount of gold be farmed for xxx euro/dollar? It's just against the EULA:

That doesn't avoid the fact that it's wrong. Gold is still being transferred, real cash is still involved and HOPEFULLY these people get banned. I think very few people actually work for their FoW nowadays.
